Cam Edwards came to Michigan State expecting to win – and he isn't thinking small
The UConn transfer wants to be the best running back in the country, but his plans at MSU start an old friend on the offensive line and a belief that the Spartans are building something different
Cam Edwards already knows where he is taking Michigan State's offensive linemen to dinner.

The bill probably won't be cheap. Edwards doesn't seem particularly concerned about that.
Before Michigan State's season begins, the Spartans' new running back wants to get the guys who will be opening holes for him away from the football building, sit down together, eat a good meal, and continue strengthening relationships he believes will matter when the games begin.
It is something Edwards has always made a point of doing with offensive linemen. He sits with them in meetings when he can. He jokes with them. He hangs around them. He wants to know them beyond the transactional relationship between the guy carrying the football and the five guys trying to make sure he has somewhere to carry it.
"I usually try to make sure I get close with the O-line," Edwards said. "I hang out with them. I joke around with them all the time. Even when we're in meeting rooms, I kind of sit with them. I try to keep a close bond."
There is a practical reason for that, too.
"Without them," Edwards said, "I'm nothing."
Where Edwards is at entering his lone season at Michigan State is a pretty interesting place.
The UConn transfer arrives in East Lansing after rushing for 1,240 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2025, finishing 15th nationally in rushing yards. He left UConn ranked fifth in program history with 2,690 career rushing yards and tied for fifth with 27 rushing touchdowns.
Those numbers make Edwards one of the more accomplished offensive players Michigan State added this offseason.
His goals for what comes next are considerably larger.
