Fitzgerald: ‘We got our ass kicked’ after Michigan State’s 31–3 loss at Wisconsin
The Spartans’ coach pointed to physical mismatches, missed opportunities, and defensive breakdowns against plays Michigan State had practiced
MADISON – Pat Fitzgerald’s assessment of Michigan State’s 31–3 loss at Wisconsin was blunt, and the explanation extended across all three phases.
“They physically beat us in every aspect of the game, and that’s incredibly disappointing,” Fitzgerald said.
Michigan State finished with 235 total yards, converted five of 18 third downs, and went 1-for-6 on fourth down. Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph accounted for 286 yards and four touchdowns, repeatedly exposing a defense Fitzgerald said had prepared for the plays that hurt it.
The Spartans fell to 2–3 overall and 0–2 in the Big Ten with their third consecutive loss. Fitzgerald continued to express belief in his players, but acknowledged that the work ahead applies to everyone, including him and his staff.
“We’re not there yet,” he said. “It’s obvious.”
