Aug. 1 is an important date on the NCAA hockey calendar, marking the first day rising high school juniors can announce their college commitments.

The rule change allowing Canadian Hockey League players to compete in the NCAA has altered the significance of the date, as many high-end prospects are now expected to wait until closer to their enrollment window before making decisions.

Still, Aug. 1 provides programs with an opportunity to demonstrate the health of their recruiting efforts and show that their future pipelines remain well stocked with developing talent.

Michigan State has traditionally been active around August 1 under head coach Adam Nightingale, and the Spartans remained true to form this past weekend.

MSU secured commitments from three players who are set to begin their junior hockey careers with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Plymouth next season.
