Here is Pat Fitzgerald’s plan for Michigan State’s transition from training camp to game week
The Spartans have reached the point where Fitzgerald’s meticulously designed program must begin producing results
Pat Fitzgerald has spent his first nine months at Michigan State teaching, organizing, and evaluating.
The teaching portion will never truly end, but the Spartans are about to reach the point at which the results become visible.
Michigan State will hold its mock game Thursday, complete its final situational work Friday, and give the players Saturday off. When they return Sunday, training camp will effectively be over, and the Spartans will enter their first game week under Fitzgerald.
That transition has been planned down to the smallest detail.
Fitzgerald has already mapped out Michigan State’s practice schedule, recruiting periods, bye week, travel arrangements, potential postseason scenarios, and nearly everything in between. His approach begins with the desired result and works backward, giving the program a structure that can accommodate changes without being disrupted by them.
That structure is about to face its first real test.
