INSIDER: What Pat Fitzgerald saw in Michigan State’s Nebraska loss – and what comes next
Edwards’ injury raises stakes as Michigan State searches for answers
EAST LANSING – Pat Fitzgerald did not treat Michigan State’s 31-13 loss to Nebraska as one bad Saturday that could simply be discarded.
His review identified 15 critical errors that contributed to the loss. The troubling part was not that Nebraska overwhelmed Michigan State on every snap. It was how often the Spartans undermined themselves through turnovers, penalties, poor decisions, and breakdowns in execution.
Fitzgerald also showed the team 15 examples of Michigan State playing with the detail, urgency, effort, and discipline he expects. In several cases, the positive and negative examples came on similar plays. His message Monday was that the Spartans must become more consistent and sharply reduce the mistakes that are costing them opportunities to win.
