The Wooden Award watch list shows how much respect Jeremy Fears Jr. has earned across the country. Earlier this month, he was also selected to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Mid-Season Top 10. The honors confirm his national standing.

Inside Michigan State’s program, though, his value is measured a little differently – through steadiness, leadership, and control.

That difference will matter Friday night when No. 10 Michigan State travels to Wisconsin.

The Spartans are 20–4 overall and 10–3 in the Big Ten after an 85–82 overtime win over Illinois. In that game, Fears scored 26 points and handed out 15 assists. He did not just put up big numbers. He controlled the rhythm and kept the team organized when it mattered most.

National awards focus on production. Points per game. Assists. Efficiency. Fears has the numbers to match the attention. He is averaging 15.1 points and 9.1 assists per game, which ranks first in Division I. His 219 total assists also lead the country. Michigan State ranks ninth nationally in assists as a team.

But inside the locker room, his impact shows up in other ways.
