Michigan State DL Quindarius Dunnigan knows the importance of accountability as the Spartans open Big Ten play
Michigan State defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan is embracing his role as a captain and leader as the Spartans enter Big Ten play this weekend at USC.
Michigan State's Quindarius Dunnigan embraces every opportunity to be challenged and held accountable every day he plies his craft on the football field.
For the graduate senior defensive lineman, who is in his seventh year of college football in 2025, first impressions made all the difference upon entering the transfer portal following the 2023 season and eventually winding up in East Lansing.
“My first meeting with (Michigan State defensive coordinator/linebackers coach) Coach (Joe) Rossi when I was still in the portal, I was like, ‘OK, this guy has an edge to him,’” Dunnigan said this week. “It was hard to read him at first and it explodes on the field, though.
"He's kind of a quieter guy off the field. He still talks and everything, but when we're in meetings and when he's on the field, if he wants something done right, he's gonna let you know. And we appreciate that. We appreciate the accountability.”
The 6-foot-4, 257-pound Dunnigan, who previously played for Middle Tennessee State for five seasons (2019 through 2023), is doing his best to carry that message and mentality forward.
Dunnigan, a team captain in 2025, has played in all three games this year and has compiled modest numbers: five total tackles (one unassisted), with a half-tackle for loss. But it’s the experience and knowledge gleaned over 44 career games coming into 2025 that’s proving invaluable. He also worked on his body throughout the offseason and feels he is now playing faster.
"I feel quick. I feel great,” he said. “I honestly feel great. I really appreciate the coaching staff. The guys really helped me out a whole lot, just getting my body exactly where I wanted to be, and it’s showing on the field.”
