The Michigan State football program is coming off of a much-needed bye week and is preparing for a rivalry game against the Michigan Wolverines in Week 10.
The Spartans (2-6, 0-5 in Big Ten play) travel to Ann Arbor to take on the Wolverines (5-3, 2-3 in Big Ten play) on Saturday night, with kickoff set for 7:40 p.m. Eastern Time. Peacock will stream the game exclusively.
The Spartans hoped to use the bye week to get healthier, but both sides have plenty of injuries to monitor as Saturday's contest draws closer.
The initial availability report for the matchup between MSU and U-M was released on Wednesday. There will be updates on Thursday and Friday, followed by the final report, which will be unveiled two hours before kickoff on Saturday.
Here is where things currently stand.
Wednesday Report:
Michigan State has already ruled the following players out: running back Cam Edwards (who is out for the 2026 season), quarterback Cam Fancher, cornerback Tre Bell, running back Jaziun Patterson, cornerback Charles Brantley, linebacker Jordan Hall, running back Marvis Parrish, safety Brayden Thomas, tight end Jayden Savoury, fullback Jay Coyne, defensive tackle Ben Roberts, offensive lineman Tristan Comer and tight end Joe Caudill.
Hall, a team captain, has been limited to just four games this season due to multiple injuries. He hasn't appeared in a game since MSU's Oct. 10 overtime loss to Illinois. Getting Hall back would be massive for the Spartans because of both his playing ability and leadership, but he will miss another game.
The Spartans' depth at the cornerback position remains depleted, with its top-two players at the position still out in Bell and Brantley, although they appear to be getting healthier there with cornerbacks Keshawn Williams and cornerback Tyran Chappell both listed as questionable for Saturday.
Meanwhile, the defense took another big hit in Week 8 with defensive tackle Ben Roberts — who MSU head coach Pat Fitzgerald believed to be playing at an All-Big Ten level and a player who NFL scouts were starting to notice — exiting the game against UCLA with a leg injury. Roberts will be unable to play against the Wolverines, which is big loss for the Spartans in the interior.
Patterson also missed the game against UCLA with an undisclosed injury. He took over as Michigan State's starting running back after Edwards went down with a season-ending knee injury in September. While Patterson was inactive, Parrish started the game against the Bruins, but exited after three snaps with what appeared to be a significant leg injury. With Patterson and Parrish both unavailable against Michigan, the Spartans will rely on tailbacks Kenneth Williams, Brandon Tullis and Zion Gist, among others.
Savoury is a surprise addition to the list. Savoury is tied with Chrishon McCray for the team lead with 29 and he is also tied for the Big Ten leads in receptions by a tight end. He is a significant loss for MSU's offense.
In addition to Keshawn Williams and Chappell, there are other players who MSU lists as questionable, including multiple starters. Quarterback Alessio Milivojevic, safety Devin Vaught and wide receiver Charles Taplin all have a chance to play on Saturday, but their exact statuses are unclear.
Milivojevic, who is a team captain and started the first seven games for the Spartans, missed the Week 8 contest against the Bruins due to an undisclosed injury. True freshman quarterback Kayd Coffman got the start — the first of his career — and redshirt freshman quarterback Leo Hannan also earned playing time in the 28-10 loss at UCLA.
Vaught, who plays a significant role for the Spartan defense, was injured during the game against UCLA. Taplin missed the previous two games against Northwestern and UCLA. He has recorded three receptions for 65 yards (21.7 yards per catch) and a touchdown in 2026.
Of note, offensive guard Nick Sharpe was injured during the UCLA game, but he does not appear on the initial availability report ahead of the game against Michigan.
Meanwhile, Michigan has ruled the following players out: wide receiver Kendrick Bell, wide receiver Braydon Alford, running back Micah Ka'apana, defensive end Julius Holly, offensive lineman Ace Hamilton and offensive lineman Andrew Sprague.
The Wolverines also have several players listed as questionable: safety Rod Moore, safety Jordan Young, defensive end Dom Nichols, offensive lineman Brady Norton, tight end Hogan Hansen and defensive end John Henry Daley.
U-M starting center Jake Guarnera is listed as probable and appears to be on track to play for the Wolverines this weekend.
