Road Warriors: No. 2 MSU Hockey looks to clinch unprecedented third straight Big Ten Championship

Let's take a look at what went wrong last weekend, and how to fix it moving forward

On January 14, I sat down and wrote an analysis of what MSU would likely need - record-wise and play-wise - to secure a third straight B1G Championship.

I wrote that piece after a weekend where the Spartans failed to sweep Ohio State, as they also failed to do just this past weekend.

When I wrote the first article, the Spartans were in fourth place, behind Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan - trailing the first place Wolverines by eight points with two games in hand.

As the Spartans begin their regular season finale series tonight in Minnesota, they sit just two points from securing a share of the B1G Championship, and a regulation win (three points) from an outright title.

The Spartans swept Penn State - securing five of a possible six points - swept Wisconsin, and took four of six points from Michigan to boost their chances. MSU made things harder on themselves by not taking care of business on home ice last weekend, losing 5-1 Friday night to Ohio State, and then winning a 13-round shootout Saturday night, securing only two out of a possible six points against the unranked Buckeyes.

Today, I will take a look at what went wrong last weekend, and how to fix it moving forward - as well as look ahead to the matchup with the Gophers this weekend.
