‘Spartans stick together’: Cooper, Holloman return to their basketball roots at Moneyball
Reflections on the NBA Summer League, their uncertain professional futures, and the brotherhood that continues to draw them back to MSU
HOLT – Michigan State basketball players eventually move on, but they rarely leave the program completely behind.
The connection between generations of Spartans remains visible throughout the year. Former players regularly return to campus, work out inside the program’s practice facility, and spend time around Tom Izzo’s current team. Old teammates reconnect, younger players seek advice, and relationships formed in East Lansing continue long after the final game in green and white.
That brotherhood was on display Tuesday night at the Moneyball Pro-Am, where former Spartans Carson Cooper and Tre Holloman returned to support their old teammates, reconnect with fans, and reflect on where basketball has taken them.
Their paths away from Michigan State have been different. Cooper completed all four years with the Spartans before beginning his professional pursuit. Holloman transferred to NC State for his final season before playing in the NBA Summer League.
On Tuesday, however, they were once again standing together in the Lansing area as members of the same extended basketball family.
