Young Michigan State receiving corps enters 2026 with plenty to prove

Michigan State enters the 2026 season returning just two of its top seven players in receiving yards from a year ago. With little continuity or proven production returning, the Spartans’ receiving corps enters the season with plenty to prove.

Wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins acknowledges his room is young and does not yet have an established No. 1 target. He has challenged his players to view that uncertainty as an opportunity.

“It has been a great camp,” Hawkins said. “We are young overall, just from an actual field time of guys that have played Big Ten ball, but we do have some guys that have played some ball and are eager to prove themself. I think it will be more of a collective deal. We don’t have the so-called big superstar. Yet. What I have challenged our guys to do is use this as an opportunity to introduce themselves to the world. We have some really good players, some guys that play fast, play physical, and are team guys. We have true Spartans. I am excited about the group overall.”

The most significant production to replace belongs to Nick Marsh, who led Michigan State in 2025 with 59 catches for 662 yards and six touchdowns before transferring to Indiana.

Hawkins does not expect opposing defenses to dramatically alter their preparation simply because Marsh is gone. His receivers still have the same responsibility – play fast, be physical, and make plays.
