Michigan State Football: 2026 preseason camp roster notes
Notable observations regarding the Spartans' 2026 roster.
With Michigan State represented in Chicago for Big Ten Media Days, the Spartans released their 2026 preseason camp roster on Wednesday.
While there were no unexpected names, several players who enrolled in the summer were added to the roster, a few players from the spring roster are no longer listed and there a few notable observations worth mentioning throughout the list of 111 Spartans.
Spartans Illustrated takes a look at some interesting 2026 roster notes below.
WR Rodney Bullard’s status
Perhaps the most interesting note from the release of MSU’s 2026 fall camp roster is that graduate senior wide receiver Rodney Bullard’s eligibility status remains a question mark. While Bullard is included on the roster, there is an asterisk next to his name that indicates he is still “awaiting ruling on eligibility for the 2026 season.”
This is consistent with what Spartans Illustrated reported in the football chat on July 21. Sources tell Spartans Illustrated that Bullard would be permitted to practice when MSU has its first fall camp session on July 6 and as camp moves forward if there is not a ruling before then.

Notable position changes
Redshirt senior Jay Coyne is now listed as a tight end. He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons as a fullback under the Jonathan Smith staff, and he was also still listed as a fullback on the 2026 spring roster. There are no fullbacks listed on the 2026 preseason camp roster, indicating that the position is not likely to be utilized under head coach Pat Fitzgerald and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan.
Other position changes include redshirt freshman Leonard Ah You moving to EDGE (previously linebacker), redshirt freshman Cal Thrush moving to defensive lineman (previously EDGE) and redshirt sophomore Chris Piwowarczyk moving to EDGE (previously listed as linebacker, although he played rush end in the spring as well).
